[Cs-club] Interested in possibly pointless conversations?

Now that summer is over, I'm sure that many of you will find
yourselves wanting a little conversation with other gee^H^H^Hcomputer
folk like us, even if it is a little pointless. <pitch
type="salesman" action="pointingatobject">This is what the Computer
Science Club Chatterlist is all about!</pitch>.

On the Computer Science Club Chatterlist, you can email the list about
anything and everything on your mind (it would not necessarily need to
be about computers even), as long as you are a subscriber to the list.
Originally, the Chatterlist was intended for high-volume discussions
since there were many on the regular Computer Science Club mailing
list who did not wish to be subjected to the large number of emails,
and so the regular list simply became a list for important
announcements. These days there has not been that high of a volume,
so that worry is not as high as it once was, but it is still something
to consider since that could happen again. If you want to be a
subscriber, but want to avoid the possibility of high numbers of
emails, you can set your subscription to digest mode which will
combine multiple emails collected over a set period of time into one
long one, although this can be inconveniant if you wish to participate
in discussions unless you have a client that knows how to handle
digested emails (the only one that I know of right now is Mutt).

* So, if you have a computer problem and you want a little help on it,
  email the Chatterlist.

* If you have concerns about the future of the computing industry,
  email the Chatterlist.

* If you wish to discuss vectorization optimization, fast fourier
transformations, probabilistic Turing Machines, Prim's Algorithm,
VLIW and its relation to EPIC (browny points to the first to figure
this out, must also explain its advantages and disadvantages), or
other such interesting concepts, email the Chatterlist.

* If you have a cute picture of your cat or dog, email the
  Chatterlist...or not.

* If you're lonely...I don't think that emailing the Chatterlist will
help with this problem, but hey, what do I know?

Don't worry about that third sentence in the above list. I threw it
in there for the sake of geekiness. If we do, they won't likely be
long threads.

There are a few ways to do this:

1. Email me/reply to this email and I'll add you (if you simply
    reply, I'll add you).

2. Go to http://lists.uwosh.edu/mailman/listinfo/csclubchatter and
    sign yourself up.

3. Hack into the list server, particularly Mailman, and add yourself
    (not recommended, nor very likely).

4. Hope that a freak accident happens and your email address will
suddenly appear on the list (highly unlikely).

5. Try 3, then 4, and then realize that those are unfeasible, and so
then proceed try 1 or 2, which have much higher chances of
    happening.

6. ???

7. PROFIT (this one works in a similar fashion to 4)!!!!

I highly recommend the first two ways of getting on to the list. They
are guaranteed to work.

PS And here's the real intention of this email: HAVE A GOOD SUMMER!!!
