[International] Study Abroad Orientation Meetings

Dear International Listserve Member:

Introducing... the new Office of International Education at UW Oshkosh!

The new Office of International Education (OIE) was created to coordinate all University of Wisconsin Oshkosh study abroad and student exchange programs.

Services and resources available to students through the new OIE include study abroad advising, study abroad orientation meetings, student/family orientations for faculty-led programs abroad, web resources for trip preparation, travel videos, scholarship & conference information, access to an international listserve, updates on international-related events and more.

INTERNATIONAL Listserve: Information for students on study abroad opportunities, international-related events & opportunities, scholarships for study abroad, and international-related job offerings on and off campus.  Faculty, staff and community members who want to be kept informed may also subscribe. Go to http://lists.uwosh.edu/mailman/listinfo/international to subscribe.

Study abroad orientation meetings help bring students through the process of choosing a study abroad experience which fits their needs and preparing for that experience. Meetings are held in a 5-step series.  Students who are in the process of searching for the right study abroad experience or who plan to participate on non-UW Oshkosh-sponsored programs should attend. See the calendar of events at http://www.uwosh.edu/oie/events.html for meeting dates/times.

Step 1
Introduction to study abroad programs offered through UW Oshkosh. Defining your expectations of the study abroad experience and searching for a study abroad program which fits your needs.

Step 2
Narrowing down your study abroad choices. At this meeting students who have been searching for a program can ask questions and look through print materials available in the Office of International Education library.

Step 3
Assessing your language skills; applying to study abroad programs; budgets, financial aid and study abroad grants/scholarships; working with your academic advisor for prior approval for transfer credits; applying for a passport.

Step 4
Health, safety & vaccinations; returning to UW Oshkosh without reapplying for admission; applying for a visa; arranging for transportation & housing; money.

Step 5
Registering with the U.S. embassy; driving while abroad; packing; customs regulations; phone & emergency information; registering for courses while abroad; sending foreign transcripts to UW Oshkosh.
