[International] Asian Heritage Month

Dear International Listserve Member:

Below is an article on Asian Heritage Month sent by Frank Church of University News, UW Oshkosh, which I thought you might be interested in.  The article is followed by a listing of events which will take place during Hmong Week, Japan Week and a week dedicated to events on Thailand, Pakistan and Asian-Americans.

Music, fashion, food at Asian Heritage Month kick-off April 2
Dances from Fiji and Southeast Asia, live music, a fashion show and a taste of the cuisine of 13 Asian countries will be among the attractions at the April 2 kickoff for the 2003 Asian Pacific Heritage Month celebration at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
The Asian Pacific Heritage Month Festival, which is free and open to the public, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Albee Hall, 776 Algoma Blvd.
The event will include Hmong dancers from the Appleton-Kimberly area; dances from Fiji performed by student Meri Tawawili of Oshkosh; a performance by the band ?Rimshots & Reverb;? and a fashion show showcasing cultural attire from 13 Asian countries.
There will also be a special presentation by local dancers that will begin with Hmong traditional dance and slowly change into breakdancing. Student Vue Yang of Oshkosh has organized that event.
The performances will be repeated throughout the evening, and there will be food samples from Asian countries available throughout the event. There will also be cultural artifacts from Asia on display.
The kick-off event is the first of 20 planned throughout the month as part of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
