Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship: Spring 2004 Cycle Now Open
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is now accepting
applications for the Spring 2004 cycle of the Benjamin A. Gilman
International Scholarship. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State,
Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IIE through
its Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas, this program enables
students who have limited financial means the opportunity to participate
in undergraduate study abroad opportunities worldwide. The program
provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen undergraduate students at
two- and four-year institutions to pursue country-based study abroad
programs of up to one academic year. Community College students - both
two-year and transfer - are particularly encouraged to apply.
To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time
of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under
a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or in Cuba. This cycle of the
Gilman International Scholarship is for study abroad programs that start
between January 1 and April 15, 2004 and would include short-term and
winter intersession programs that begin within the eligible start dates.
For more information, full eligibility criteria, and the online
