ABOUT CDS INTERNATIONAL: CDS International, now in its 35th successful year,
is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and enhancing
opportunities for Americans to participate in meaningful, practical training
opportunities abroad. CDS offers students, recent graduates and young
professionals visa sponsorship and internship placement services, as well as
study tours and seminars, in a variety of business, engineering and other
technical fields in Germany, Argentina, Ecuador and Switzerland. Most
internships are paid and last 3-18 months. While all programs contain an

CONGRESS-BUNDESTAG YOUTH EXCHANGE FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
DESCRIPTION: This one-year study/internship exchange program is designed to
strengthen ties between the younger generations of the United States and
Germany. Primarily a cultural exchange, it combines language study,
professional schooling and an internship-providing a firsthand experience of
many aspects of German life. In the US, the Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs of the Department of State under the authority of the
Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961 fund the program. In Germany the program is
funded through the Administration of the Bundestag. The program is meant for
candidates pursuing business, technical, agricultural or vocational careers,
although candidates from all fields area encouraged to apply. The exchange
begins each year in late-July and ends in mid-July of the next year. There
are three main phases:
* August to September: Two months of intensive German language
training at the Carl Duisberg Centren in Germany
* October to January: Four months of professional schooling at a
Germany University of Applied Sciences
* February to June: Five-month internship with a Germany company or
organization.
QUALIFICATIONS: A candidate for the program must:
* Be a US citizen or permanent resident
* Be between 18 and 24 years old at the start of the program
* Have a high school diploma
* Have clear career goals
* Have relevant work experience
* Have a strong interest in Germany and international affairs
* Demonstrate flexibility, independence and diplomacy
* Have a strong sense of American identity.
COMPENSATION: The US and German governments provide funding for
international airfare, study costs, seminar costs, insurance, living
expenses during the study phase and a modest domestic travel stipend.
Participants are responsible for living expenses during the internship phase
and other personal expenses.
