[International] 2005 World Students' Tourism Summit in Japan

Dear International Listserv Member:

The Office of International Education has been invited to foward the names of 2-6 UW Oshkosh students to Asia Pacific University (APU), one of our exchange partners in Japan, for consideration for a grant to cover expenses in Japan during the "2005 World Students' Tourism Summit" to be held in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Japan from November 8 -November 15.  Experts in the tourism industry and students from all around the world are anticipated to participate.

Grants will be awarded only to students who are studying tourism/a tourism-related field or who have a strong interest in tourism.  APU and the co-hosts, Oita Prefecture and Beppu City, will cover all in-country costs associated with the summit program including a caravan tour, transportation and food. Airfares will not be covered, but winners of a video competition (see attached for details) will be awarded return air-tickets to and from the summit.  Students who travel with the summit official carrier will also be eligible for a discount.

Applicants must also abide by the following university policy: Students must request permission to be absent from classes.  The form titled "Clearance for field trip involving absence from University classes" must be circulated by you to each instructor.
If the absence is approved by all instructors, the absence will be considered excused, and you may request the instructor for make-up work which he/she may feel should be performed. If the absences are not approved by all instructors, or if the slip is not returned to you with approvals properly recorded, you are not free to go on the trip.  Please note that this is not an official University-sponsored event.

For more information, see the attached forms.  To apply, complete the attached application and return it to the Office of International Education in Dempsey 146 by Friday, August 19 .  Only UW Oshkosh students are eligible to apply through the UW Oshkosh OIE.
