[International] Volunteer Program in Japan

Dear International Listserv Member:

If you have an interest in Japan and you're available during the summer, please take a look at the following opportunity.

USA Summer Camp in Japan

USA Summer Camp is an English language program for Japanese students, kindergarden age through college. Each summer Guy Healy, Japan, a culture-exchange consulting agency based in Nagasaki and Fukuoka, Japan, recruits qualified high school and college students from the United States to work as "American camp counselors" (AC's) in Japan as part of the USA Summer Camp program. The AC's stay in Japan for six to seven weeks, depending on the assignment. During this period, AC's work with Japanese students on a variety of English language skills and participate in recreation activities, have meals together and interact through a variety of social activities. AC's also spend part of their stay with Japanese host families and/or in hotels or hostels.

With the exception of the Nagasaki team of AC's, most teams will arrive in early July and stay in Japan for 6-7 weeks. When camp is not in session, GHJ will set up host family stays for the ACs. Each team typically runs about 8-9 three-day camp sessions throughout the duration of the summer.

In compensation for working as counselors, Guy Healy, Japan covers air travel to/from Japan, room and board for selected applicants.  The application process is competitive.
