[International] Position Announcement - Study Abroad Advisor, Gustavus Adolphus College - Family Leave Replacement (INTLJOB)

Position Opening: Study Abroad Advisor, Gustavus Adolphus College (temporary, full-time position, family leave replacement.)
Position dates October 1, 2008 -- January 16, 2009. This position is part of the Gustavus Adolphus Office of International Education which consists of five staff and 15 student workers. This position reports to the Director of International and Cultural Education.
This is an excellent opportunity for a previous professional looking to re-enter the field, for a current graduate student seeking an internship in Education Abroad, or a recent graduate looking to break into the field and get hands-on experience.
The Study Abroad Advisor will oversee the advising and processes for semester and year long study abroad students at Gustavus Adolphus College located in St. Peter, Minnesota (about 1 hour south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Twin Cities area.).
Duties include: student advising (general program advising and program specific advising and application processing), management of Gustavus internal applications and Gustavus required forms, serve as main point of contact for all semester and year-long study abroad students, maintain contact with program providers, assistance with Gustavus Semester in Sweden program administration, supervision of two work-study students and two study abroad interns/peer advisors, problem-solving and crisis management assistance, collaboration with OIE Finance Manager on student billing and cost estimates, pre-departure orientation and on-line evaluations, oversight of the November study abroad fair, embassy registrations and creation of emergency information binder, among other items.
Minimum Qualifications:
. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
. Ability to work with others (departmental colleagues, students,
faculty and other staff)
. Cross-cultural sensitivity
. Ability to coordinate multiple projects, be self-directed and
exercise discretion
. Previous office/administrative experience
. Ability to multi-task
. Attention to detail and resourcefulness
. Understanding of student advising
. Good sense of humor and strong work ethic
. Strong computer skills
Preferred:
. Master's degree (in-progress okay)
. Previous experience working in an International Education/Study
Abroad Office
. Previous study abroad advising experience
. Knowledge of study abroad programs and program providers
. Previous supervision experience
. Overseas living experience
. Foreign language proficiency
