Position Description

The College of Business seeks a highly qualified Academic Advisor to provide undergraduate students with a full range of support. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, renewable, professional faculty position. The position supports the primary mission of the University, College of Business, and Academic Services. The individual holding the position serves as an Academic Advisor and assists undergraduate students with a full range of support including orientation, academic program planning, course selection, registration, internship and career planning. This support is provided to business and non-business students. The advisor monitors student progress and suggests and implements corrective actions when students encounter academic difficulties. The advisor coordinates with other University departments regarding undergraduate academic courses that support degree programs. The advisor is a source of information for prospective students, and actively recruits students through participation in various University- and College-sponsored orientations and events. The advisor also works with the student information system and various data files and sources, and prepares a wide variety of reports using multiple databases and spreadsheets. The advisor keeps abreast of University and College policies and procedures, and rules and regulations to assist students in meeting academic requirements. The advisor assumes leadership roles that support academic programs and special projects. 

Duties 

35% -- Assistant Coordinator for COB International Exchange Program, responsible for the creation and implementation of international exchange programs including: program design, developing recruitment and selection processes, student preparation procedures, providing appropriate support mechanisms during the exchange, and developing and evaluating assessment criteria. 

35% -- Direct advising to business and non-business students (undergraduate). Monitor progress of approximately 500 business and 150 non-business students, enforcing university and college academic standards, and suggesting corrective actions when necessary. Assist students with academic program planning, course selection and registration. Provide counseling to undergraduate business students regarding internship and international exchange programs. Provide career planning advice to students interested in pursuing business degree programs. 

10% -- Scholarship Coordinator. Process scholarship applications in a timely manner. Coordinate selection process with Department Chairs, Option Coordinators and other external constituents as appropriate.
Manage offering of scholarship amounts consistent with availability of funds from various OSU foundation accounts. Coordinate scholarship offering with OSU Financial Aid Office. 

10% -- Records, data management, academic standards enforcement and administrative duties. Track internship and job placement information.
Enforce University and College academic standards, and assist students in meeting academic requirements. Works with student information systems to prepare a variety of reports. Manage and update student academic records. 

5% -- Orientation and special recruiting events. Actively recruit students through participation in University and College-sponsored orientations and events. Serve as a source of information to prospective students regarding University and College academic programs. 

5% -- Support academic programs and special projects, such as coordinate College Career Symposium. Program and project assignments will be made by the Associate Dean of Academic Programs or Head Advisor. Duties and responsibilities vary depending on the specific assignment.

Required Qualifications 

Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in discipline of choice; one year, full time equivalent, experience as an academic or career advisor in a higher education setting, OR two years, full time equivalent experience working in human resources and have some experience working professionally in higher education; demonstrated professional business communication skills, strong organizational/administrative skills, event planning skills, web content management skills, and spreadsheet and database skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

Preferred qualifications include an MBA, a degree in a business-related field or Masters in College Student Services Administration (or similar), employment as a full-time academic advisor in a college or university setting for two years, experience with international students and international exchange programs, experience living and/or working abroad, proficiency with Banner Student Information Services (SIS), advising experience with a diverse student population, and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
