Location: Brattleboro, VT
General Description: The Study Abroad Coordinator works with a regional subset of SIT Study Abroad programs. Duties include counseling prospective students in program enrollment; application review, making admissions decisions, pre-departure preparation, and academic advising. Additional responsibilities include providing program support through responding to the needs of the Academic Directors (ADs) abroad. S/he coordinates the administrative and logistical services provided to applicants, accepted students and the ADs who lead the respective programs abroad. This position interacts on a regular basis with staff from many departments of World Learning/SIT, students, parents, sending institutions, and with various individuals, vendors, and offices abroad, including embassies and consulates, and affiliated institutions and organizations.
There are currently two positions available; one focused on Latin American, the other on the Asia/Pacific region.
Specific Responsibilities:
. Serve as principal contact person for students throughout all stages
of the admission and enrollment process on assigned programs. Manage phone and e-mail communication from students and parents regarding program choice, application process, credit transfer issues, financial aid, pre-departure preparation, travel arrangements, passports and visas;
. Review applications and supporting materials and serve as the
principle admissions officer.
. Oversee enrollment of assigned programs monitoring for strategic
enrollment planning, operational status and admissions policies.
. In close consultation with directors and deans, manage ongoing
strategic communications with inquiries, applicants and parents.
. Provide programmatic support and monitoring for the assigned
programs through, among other things, close communication with appropriate staff on and off campus;
. Coordinate routine and day to day aspects of program administration
with the Directors of Area Studies.
. Collect and analyze information from the field, create and update
knowledge of program country contexts and external factors, collaborate on communication of this information to external constituents, including applicants, parents and sending schools;
. Ensure close communication with University Relations staff
associated with students' home schools and provide pertinent information needed for admissions decisions and continued communication around student, parent and program issues
. Communicate special student advising or support needs to program
staff, including Academic Directors, Directors of Area Studies and Student Affairs;
. Contribute to departmental support through participation on
committees, collaboration on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
. Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline
. 1 to 2 years professional experience
. Living, working, studying, or conducting research abroad for a
significant length of time; preferably in a region relevant to the program portfolio
. Experience in international education or higher education
administration
. A strong, student-centered ethic with ability to present SIT Study
Abroad programming in a positive way to diverse populations through strong cross-cultural/interpersonal oral communication and writing skills
. Understanding of and appreciation for experiential education
. Demonstrated analytical ability and attention to detail
. Ability to work cooperatively and sensitively with students, parents,
other staff and stakeholders
. Good organizational and multi-tasking skills, and demonstrated ability
to work as a team player
. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases and the
Internet
Preferred Qualifications:
. Master's degree in a relevant discipline
. Experience coordinating and/or administering study abroad programs
. Higher education admissions or advising experience
. Alumni of SIT Study Abroad or similar study abroad experience
. Conversational proficiency in a foreign language relevant to the
portfolio of programs
