Association of Colleges and Universities
(HACU) cordially
invite you to submit proposals for the
1st
Hispanic Virtual
Congress a
bilingual trendsetter event devoted to sharing theoretical perspectives,
lessons learned, best practices and expertise about technology and
distance learning in the framework of cultural diversity.
The
1st
Hispanic Virtual
Congress will
represent the multiple perspectives and expertise of diverse academic
communities and others engaged in distance/online learning and
technology, as they relate to Hispanic higher education, cross
cultural-communication, and cultural diversity. Scheduled to be offered
entirely through the Internet, this event strives to facilitate the
delivery of a thought-provoking, motivating online conference.
Representatives from the larger and diverse academic, business, and
international communities are most welcomed to submit proposals.

- Online Teaching and Learning (e.g. Addressing differences in learning styles and cross-cultural communications issues for diverse students.)
- Quality and Assessment of online learning (e.g. Using information technology to enhance academic success of Hispanic and other culturally diverse learners.)
- Support Services for distant/online Learners (e.g. Designing effective online support services that address the cultural diversity of distance students.)
- Infrastructure and emerging technologies (Building the necessary capacity for Hispanic/Minority serving institutions to serve their online student population.)
- Institutional challenges, and policy issues and collaboration initiatives (e.g. Forging alliances and inter-institutional initiatives to expand access and improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of offerings at partnering institutions.)
All proposals should be submitted through the Virtual Congress website starting on May 23 and until June 30, 2005. Proposals can be presented either in English or Spanish. Language of the proposed paper or presentation should be the same as the one used for submitting the proposal. Participants may present research papers, case studies, best practices, and project reviews related to the main theme and related topics of the Virtual Congress. The following information is required to submit a proposal:
- Title and selected topic
- The proposal: as a summary of 350 words about the research paper or project to be presented during the Virtual Congress, including the strategy to be used for online interaction with attendees (e.g. guiding questions, multimedia presentation, chat, discussion forum).
- Presenters data: Name, institutional affiliation, and a brief statement of the presenters academic and professional background as it relates to the topic, as well as the presenters contacting data (phone number, mailing address, and e-mail), and language of the presentation.
- A brief abstract: an excerpt of 100 words from the proposal, which could be used in the final program to describe your paper or presentation.
