[Intl] GSSI and $500 professional dev grant

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT OPPORTUNITY
Available to participants of GSSI 2005
Submission Period; July 1-
August 1, 2005
 
Two (2) Professional Development Grants of $500 will be awarded.
 
Upon completion of the Global Studies Summer Institute participants may submit a final curriculum based on the GSSI 2005 sessions for consideration.  Submitted curricula may be posted on our website or otherwise distributed as a resource for educators.  More details will be provided at the conference.  Contact Yvonne Reyes, yvonne@uwm.edu or 414-229-3312 with any questions.

Rethinking Global Security
in a Wired World

UW-Milwaukee Hefter Conference Center
Global Studies Summer Institute (GSSI)
Sponsored by the Center for International Education (CIE) at UW-Milwaukee and the UW-System Institute for Global Studies (IGS), the Summer Institute is an annual program intended to provide grade 7-16 educators with an opportunity to learn about and discuss contemporary international issues and their practical applications for the classroom. 
 
Program Goals
   -Explore new technologies' influence on the instruction and study of current world affairs. 
   -Discuss how concepts of "security" have evolved as reliance on information networks has increased.
   -Develop strategies for vetting and evaluating internet-based teaching resources.
   -Exchange ideas about best practices for the use and application of with new media in the classroom.
  Program Highlights
   -Participate in discussions with specialists on issues of security, technology, and instruction.
   -Receive an extensive prepared collection of background, curriculum, and Internet resources.
   -Collaborate to create lesson plans to integrate into your curriculum.
   -Earn graduate course credit (for a fee).
   -Network with other educators interested in global issues and form peer groups as part of your professional development plan. 
Program Costs
The program cost is largely underwritten by our Title VI grant and co-sponsors, the Institute for Global Studies and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The participant cost of $70 (non-refundable), includes all sessions, speakers, materials, meals, refreshments and lodging.  For more information, please contact Yvonne Reyes at yvonne@uwm.edu or 414-229-3312.
