AGENCY:
U.S. Department of Education (ED); Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE);
International Education Programs Service (IEPS)

PROGRAM:
Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Program

ITEM:
Notice seeking applications from institutions of higher education, which in
turn have solicited applications from individual graduate students on
campus, to conduct full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign
languages and area studies. There is an absolute priority for research
projects focusing on one or more of the following areas: Africa, East Asia,
Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, East
Central Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere. Applications that
propose projects focused on Western Europe will not be funded.

ACTION:
Applications are due by November 10, 2005, except for applicants from areas
affected by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita; deadline for those applicants is
December 1, 2005. Total estimated program funding is $4.4 million, which
will support approximately 150 fellowship awards of $15,000 to $60,000 each.

Islands, South Asia, the Near East, East Central Europe and Eurasia, and the
Western Hemisphere. Applications that propose projects focused on Western
Europe will not be funded.

Notice seeking proposals which focus on training, research, and curriculum
development in modern foreign languages and area studies, including
short-term seminars, curriculum development, or group research or study.
There is an absolute priority for research projects focusing on one or more
of the following areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific
Islands, South Asia, the Near East, East Central Europe and Eurasia, and the
Western Hemisphere. Applications that propose projects focused on Western
Europe will not be funded.

ACTION:
Applications are due by November 10, 2005, except for applicants from areas
affected by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita; deadline for those applicants is
December 1, 2005. Total estimated program funding is $2.5 million, which
will support approximately 36 awards ranging from $50,000 to $90,000 each.
