Dear WISPIRG supporter,

Come and join citizens from around Wisconsin to ask your legislators to make protecting our environment and public health a priority. WISPIRG is coordinating with other environmental groups to make sure that there is adequate funding for clean water enforcement and an expansion of renewable energy, and that polluters pay their fair share of our environmental programs.

WHAT: Citizen Environmental Lobby Day: Come and join citizens from around Wisconsin to ask your legislators to make protecting our environment and public health a priority.

WHEN: Wednesday, February 16, 2005, 10 am - 4:30 pm

WHERE: Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison

I'd like to know how many people to expect, so please let me know you're coming by clicking on the following link (or paste it into your web browser):

Background:

Constituents from around the state will join representatives from more than 35 conservation and environmental organizations to meet with every Assembly Representative, Senator, the Attorney General, and Governor Doyle to discuss conservation policy priorities for the 2005-2006 Legislative session.

During our visits, we will place emphasis on conservation priorities in the state budget, including the need to fully implement the polluted run off rules. Sediment, excessive nutrients, and other contaminants pollute Wisconsin's lakes and streams when they run off of city streets, farm fields, and construction sites. While there are rules regulating the amount and kinds of pollution that can enter Wisconsin's waters, the legislature has not made their proper implementation a priority so little has been done to implement them.

Environmental Lobby Day is an excellent opportunity to join conservation staff and other constituents like yourself in a visit to meet your legislator face-to-face. This will be your chance to tell your legislator that you value the protection of Wisconsin's land, air, and water. Please come and represent your community at this important free event at the State Capitol. Lunch will be provided. Please invite your friends and family members too by forwarding this e-mail to them.
