1. ENERGY ACTION: SUMMER INTERNSHIPS & ROAD TO DETROIT

Energy Action internships provide youth with a behind-the-scenes look at the
clean energy movement.  We kick off the summer with an intensive training
session in early June (6th - 8th) in Knoxville, TN followed by an outreach
event at the Bonnaroo music festival June 8th-12th.  Afterward, one set of
interns will either board hybrid and bio-diesel buses to travel the country
visiting music festivals, organizing local events, recruiting youth for our
e-activist lists, and working in key states to pressure policymakers to
adopt Clean Car Bills or work with local and state groups to plan and
recruit for a convergence in Detroit, both as part of our "All Roads Lead to
Detroit" program.  Another set of interns will work to develop the Campus
Climate Challenge, Energy Action's new program to catalyze the energy
revolution on US and Canadian campuses.
http://www.energyaction.net

2. CLIMATE CAMPAIGN: SUMMIT/05-06 CAMPUS CAMPAIGN PLANNING RETREAT

Save the date!  The Climate Campaign's 3rd Annual Summer Session will be
held in Boston August 11 th-15th, with the possibility of an additional
campaign training session August 16th-17th!  Food and housing will be
provided.  This year's session will include fieldtrips to local
environmental organizations, presentations by a range of topic experts, a
diversity training, and lots of time for the play, planning, and visioning
that will make the Climate Campaign a continued force for cohesive,
meaningful Northeast Climate Action!
Check back at http://www.climatecampaign.org for registration info and more
details in the coming weeks.
Email climatecampaign@gmail.com to make sure you get the latest information!

3. CALIFORNIA STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY COALITION

The second annual Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP) lecture
series and accredited class at five campuses with over 1000 students
involved will go on throughout the spring ( http://www.eslp.net).
Summer will see the exciting climax of our "Move UC" campaign, an effort
to get the University of California to pass an aggressive sustainable
transportation
policy. The UC Board of Regents are supposed to vote on a policy in
September so we are working hard to organize the students, staff and faculty
to keep the pressure on the University Governance to create a strong policy.
Find out more and send a Move UC postcard to the UC president,
http://www.sustainabilitycoalition.org.

4. ENVIROCITIZEN: INTERNSHIPS, SPRING EXTRAVAGANZA & SUMMER TRAININGS

combination of briefings, trainings and small group practice, student
activists from across the country learn essential grassroots organizing and

17.  UNIVERSITY OF OREGON STUDENTS APPROVE $2 FEE INCREASE FOR
SUSTAINABILITY

On April 8th, students at University of Oregon voted 1,150 to 277 in favor
of Ballot Measure 21 in the Associated Students of the University of Oregon
primary election.  Ballot Measure 21 calls for a fee increase of up to $2 to
fund on-campus sustainability projects.  If approved by the State Board of
Higher Education, the fee increase will raise up to $40,000 annually.
Approximately $11,000 of this would be used to power the student union with
100% wind power.  The remainder would be used to fund additional energy
conservation and sustainability projects.

18.  WA REQUIRES ALL STATE-FUNDING BUILDINGS TO BE LEED SILVER

Under the terms of a law signed by Governor Gregoire on April 8th,
state-funded colleges and universities in Washington state are required to
design, construct and certify all "major facility projects" receiving state
funding to at least the LEED silver standard. Under the law, a major
facilities project is a construction project larger than five thousand gross
square feet or a building renovation project when the cost is greater than
fifty percent of the assessed value and the project is larger than five
thousand gross square feet.  Washington is the first state to approve such
legislation requiring all state-funded buildings to meet green building
standards.

19. TUFTS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS APPROVE WIND POWER REFERENDUM

On April 27, students at Tufts University outside Boston overwhelmingly
voted in support of a referendum to get the university to purchase wind
power.  Of the 1,984 voters, an incredible 88 percent voted in favor of the
referendum, which proposes a tuition increase of no more than $20 per
student per year to provide 20 to 60 percent of the university's energy from
renewable wind sources.  Tufts' Board of Trustees has the ultimate
purchasing decision, but the referendum results clearly show that students
want clean energy.

20. SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY TO PURCHASE 20 % RENEWABLE ENERGY

After days of demonstrations and the combined support of the Student
Association and Syracuse University faculty, SU has decided to make the
campus a little greener.  University officials announced a plan to purchase
at least 20 percent  of SU's electricity from renewable energy sources by
July 1.

21. GREEN CAMPUS PROGRAM REALIZES SAVINGS ON CA CAMPUSES

CALIFORNIA - Launched in June 2004, the Green Campus Program is realizing
energy savings on six of California's university campuses through low and
no-cost efficiency and conservation efforts.  The pilot project is made
possible by the California Public Utilities Commission and administered by
the California-based Alliance to Save Energy. Participating campuses include
Humboldt State Univ., Sonoma State Univ., CSU San Bernardino, UC Berkeley,
UC Santa Barbara, and UC San Diego. Each campus develops a unique plan for
saving energy, integrating energy into academic learning, and involving the
campus and community. On all Green Campuses student interns have recruited
faculty, staff, administration, and student leaders to serve in a voluntary
capacity on the Green Campus Advisory Council (GCAC).  The interns have
undertaken a variety of initiatives to raise student and staff awareness of
conservation behaviors and efficiency technologies, including service-based
learning projects that are offered to students for course credit through
such programs as the California Student Sustainability Coalition's (CSSC's)
Education for Sustainable Living Program. For more information visit:

22. AZ GOVERNOR ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER TO ENCOURAGE GREEN BUILDING

PHOENIX, Ariz. - In February, Governor Janet Napolitano issued an executive
order requiring all new state-funded buildings to meet the LEED silver
standard, meet state energy efficiency standards, and supply 10 percent of
their energy needs from renewable sources. The order allows new buildings to
either generate their own renewable power or buy renewable energy credits.
