[WAC-list] National Day Of Silence
Dear WAC Listserv Members,
This year's National Day of Silence is Wednesday, April 24th. In an
effort to increas awareness of the silence LGBTQ people can experience
about their sexuality/gender identity, Rainbow Alliance for HOPE is
sponsoring a poster campaign, and we need YOUR help!
Our plan is to photograph people who wish to participate. The
photograph would probably be from the nose down so the subject may not
be completely identifiable. Each person would have a black "X" covering
their mouth, signifying the silence they keep about their life. Above
the picture would be a phrase such as, "I keep silent about my life at
work" or "I am silent about my spouse." Below the picture would be
information about the National Day of Silence. Posters will be printed
in black and white and posted all over campus the week of National
Silence Day.
This project takes on great weight, and the total effect may not be
known until we do it. We are looking for members willing to be
photographed for this poster campaign. Any members of the LGBTQA
community, including allies, are encouraged to be photographed if they
feel comfortable. If you are interested in helping with the Day of
Silence poster campaign or have additional suggestions, please respond
to this email not later than Wednesday, April 17th. We will organize a
time to have your picture taken and plan to distribute posters on
Tuesday, April 23rd.
I hope you will all consider helping with this program and promoting
the Day of Silence. For more information on this day, please check out
this website: http://www.dayofsilence.org. You'll see my face on one of
those posters...will we see yours?
