The African Studies Program is happy to be able to offer up to three Scholar Access Grants in summer 2007 to faculty members of Midwestern universities, colleges, and community colleges who would benefit from spending a week or more in scholarly research or course development on Africa in the libraries of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Awards may be used to cover transport to and from Madison and living and research expenses while here. Grants will be for up to $800 and must be used for work in Madison, on Africa, between May and September, 2007. To apply for a scholar access grant, please submit a letter outlining the Africa project that will be undertaken in Madison and how it fits into a larger teaching and/or research profile or plan. Note how you hope to use your time in Madison and provide tentative dates. With your letter, include a current CV and a rough budget. Air fare may be estimated. The mileage rate if you drive to and from Madison is 42.5 cents per mile. Hotel costs should be budgeted at no more than $62 per night and meal costs at no more than $32 per day. Other research expenses might include photocopying but should not entail purchase of materials. Eligibility is not limited to tenured or tenure-track faculty members, but preference will be given to applicants who will be teaching full-time at the post-secondary level next year.
