Dear VDS helpers (please forward this to friends),

Here are the plans that were developed at last Monday's meeting for
the Victoria's
Dirty Secret <http://www.victoriasdirtysecret.net> campaign.
Dates:  Planning--> mar 6-19th,  Actions and activity--> mar 20-apr 14,
National Day of Action-->Apr 11th. Usually planning occurs at SEAC meetings
5-6pm on thursday.
Goals:

   1. Educate as many students, community members, and friends about what
   is going on in the forest industry, specifically addressing the devastation
   brought on by the catalog industry.  Discuss the importance of these large
   forests. Explain how big a player Victoria's Secret is and how they can make
   changes for others to follow.
   2. We'll use Actions to make our demands known.  As consumers we need
   to let industries know that it's customer base does not agree with their
   catalog policy as it stands, even if that requires extra means to let them
   know.

Educating
Reaching out

   1. Community:
      1. Faith-Based:  Currently Bob Poeschl is working on getting the
      Interfaith network involved.  This would include discussions and churches
      and other places of worship that could help reach the community.

       2. Community Environmental Groups:  Clint is trying to contact
      area Sierra Clubs and other campuses.

       3. Media:  We need someone to be a media contact person as well
      as to send out press releases.  If someone is good at writing,
you can write
      editorials representing SEAC or yourself.  We'd like to have a couple
      editorials in the papers during the 4 week leadup.

       2. Campus:
    1. Student groups:  We need folks (1-2) to make presentations to such
      groups as sororities, fraternities, student orgs, and clubs.   (We would
      contact them to let them know our plans to meet with them  and
our about our
      magazine collection idea.)  After making a short presentation about the
      campaign,  we would collect magazines and see if the group will
sign a large
      petition as a group or individually.

       2. Tabling:  We'll do tabling that will coincide with some of
      our actions.  It would be preferred to have a least one person
manning the
      table during the peak noon times to catch people.  The tabling will
      interchange with other SEAC Earth Week info tables throughout the week.

Actions

   1. Street Theatre:  The plan-->  Dress like corporate execs pushing
   for the destruction of forests for catalogs.  This stunt is modeled after
   some the street preachers seen on campus.  The absurdity will hopefully be
   seen, but the action will ,i'm sure, get the message out strongly about what
   is factually going on in the Boreal forests.   This is planned to happen mar
   20th hopefully or near the beginning of the 1st week after break

   Props-->bull horn, signs that have pictures of caribou/owls/lush
   forests and crosses through them, informational handouts about the physical
   amounts of destruction and pictures, folks dressed up and looking business
   like having slogans like, "You are un-American if you don't support
   clear-cuts!", etc.

   *** 4-5 people will be needed.
   -->Practices will probably happen this weekend and during break.
   2. Job Application:  A fake job application booth will be made up for
   students to visit.  Upon their interest in a job at victoria's secret, they
   will be inform about the different forestry policies the company engages in.

   *** 2 people needed to table during the lunch hour.


    3. Call-In Day:  Persons with cell phones will ask passers-by to make
   a phone call to the nearby Vitoria's Secret to inform them they'd like
   recycled magazines and other options

   *** 2-3 people

    4. Day of Action, Apr 11th:  3 tier system;
   1) a crew(4-5)distributes fliers the day of or the day before the
   action in the mall for a few hours.  During this have several people (10-15)
   coming into Victoria's Secret dropping off magazines every 10-15 minutes and
   demand more recycled paper.
   2)  Have a few (2-3) talk to the management about signing our petition
   to send to Limited Brands Inc. CEO.
   3)  Depending on the response of the manager, actions such as posters,
   balloon banners, and handouts might follow.

   *** 15-20 people needed, 1 to be liaison

There is going to be a really cool panel discussion on Thursday, February 23 up at UW Fox Valley--it's called "Weaving Our Lives."  It will be a diverse local panel on how cultural traditions enhance family and community life.

Meeting this Sunday!! 9pm!! swing by and help with the planning.  We need
your ideas.

We need volunteers for the Victoria's Call-in Day and the Faux Victoria's
Secret recruiting table.  These events will be  on seperate weeks and we'll
place to suit you.
We need everybody for the Day of Action on April 11th.  Please register with
Jesse or I on any of these events to let us know you want to come.  Each
event is on a different week, so we'll line it up according to your
schedule.


Here's info from the last email if you didn't see it:

We will meeting this coming Sunday evening, 9pm in Reeve SLIC, to work on
the our projects.  The main objective is to get the Street theatre ready to
go with posters, leaflets, and sayings.   If the SLIC isn't open, meet right
outside of it and we'll find a different place.  Call me if you're going to
be late: 920-382-1988

*Street Theatre Performance:   Wednesday Mar 22, strategically placed the
day after the Chancellor rally.  Right around the noon to catch the most
traffic.  It will last anywhere between 30-90 min depending on how much we
can figure to do.

!Important!:  Preceding our meeting are most Sorority meetings, between 6
and 9pm.  Can anybody do a small  presentation with me on VDS.  You don't
need an extensive knowledge of the campaign, the main point is to inform
folks, collect signatures and to find volunteers for the April11th Action.
I have the sororities' contact info and will do that tomorrow.  If anybody
knows when frat meetings are, please help with that.

Following  our 9pm meeting, the Street Theatre people will meet, rehearse,
practice, etc.   Right now, We have two women and myself involved.  There's
still time to participate and one more male would be great! PLease help, add
your thoughts to the list below and send to Jesse and I. THANKS!

update. read it!

We will officially be meeting this coming Wednesday afternoon at 5pm in the
SLIC , to *practice the theatre.*  You can come help make posters, leaflets,
and sayings and watch us perform. Call me if you're going to be late:
920-382-1988.  If anybody would like to work on posters this evening call me
as well.

*Street Theatre Performance:   Thursday 11:20-12:40 and 1:40-2pm, the first
being at the mall intersection by the Foundations house, dempsey, polk and
harrington, the second in front of Reeve.

Here's what we have planned.  Again, if you're going to participate in
anything, please notify Jesse or I ASAP!!!

      - Clearcuts, fine by me!

    - James is working on some quotes.  If anybody has info on an exec or

-There will be a meeting in the Women's Center this Sunday, the 26th at 7pm to talk about the pizza fundraising idea and also to split up advertising in residence hall responsibilities (we will need people to attend Hall Gov meetings to get permission) All are welcome!

Victoria's Dirty Secret meeting:  Monday 8:30pm in the SLIC
*Poster making for Fake Application event.
*Planning event the Call-in day and Day of Action

Street Theatre.   It went great!!  We caught a lot of people;  folks taking
double takes and wondering what we were about.  It was good for the sake
that it put them on the defensive about their forests and made them search
for reasons why we shouldn't be needlessly clear-cutting forests for nice
looking catalogues.  It was also a wonderful surprise to find out it was
High School art day.  There was a train of way of over a 100 students that
walked by and had the chance to witness not only a protest but a "corporate"
protest! haha.   Thanks Emily (for the idea!), Amalia and James.  They all
did a freakin awesome job out in the cold.  And thanks to all that helped
make signs.  Charlie, I'll get you some pics asap.

Fake Application
Ms.Molly Gaffney <Gaffnm45 at uwosh.edu>  will be organizing this event.
Please send her an email on which day, around the noon hour, would work best
for you.  We're lookin for someone to table for about an hour.
Monday night we'll be putting together a posters and handouts directed at
folks to lure them in.  Your ideas are welcome!

Editorial
We currently have Abby Lecloux <lecloa46 at uwosh.edu> working on an article
for next next weeks AT.  Contacting her with ideas and help

Campus outreach
I need someone to give speech with me to sororities about this issue.  It
will be next sunday 6-9pm or so.  We'll try to get all of em.
All of you should start carrying petition sheets for folks to sign up on.
Those can be picked up at the VDS table in Reeve or in the SLIC office.
Just look inside the VDS/forests box.

Pizza Fundraiser
-Tuesday, April 4th WAC will be selling pizza through Domino's to raise money for our April event.  Watch for flyers with details!!

Clothesline Project
-we are working on getting the t shirts for the event, and are still looking to book volunteers for each day of the week of April 17-21 to hang up/take down the tees in the union

Poster Making
-Tuesday April 4th- meet at the Women's Center at 4 to help make publicity posters for SOARS and the Clothesline project

Volleyball Tourney
-Tomorrow (March 30) Marianne, Molly and Laura are playing in the Volleyball Tournement for Charity at Kolf from 6pm-1am, come show us some love!!

Just a reminder meetings are Tuesdays at 4:45 in the Women's Center... the more the merrier!

My Family is have a community potluck this Saturday, April 1 at 6:00pm
until 9-10pm.  Everyone is invited.  This should be a good time tomeet a
plethora of people who are engaged various community building
organizations..  Bring a dish to pass (preferably veggie) and your own
beverages (whatever they may be).
