It's that time again to register for the United Council's Women's Leadership Conference. It will be held the weekend of Nov. 17-19th at UW-LaCrosse. If you want to attend please register online at http://www.unitedcouncil.net and tell me if you will want to ride there with me. Also, you can make your own hotel reservations or talk to me. The deadline for registration is Oct 27 but I would like to have a list of people riding with me and staying with me by Oct 13th so I can make the appropriate reservations. Please register online first and then tell me. You can drive up separately and stay at another hotel if you so desire. If you are going by yourself and not with me, can I also know so I can keep a number of members from our school going. Also, is anyone interested in making a Titan Factor team with me. I would need 3 other members for a team of 4. This would be held on Oct 14th in front of Titan Stadium for Homecoming. I will be holding auditions on W 11/15 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. in the Women's Center. You do not have to come with a monologue prepared. I will have you read from one of the monologues. Please come with a monologue in mind that you might want to perform. The dates of the performances are Feb 23-25. I am looking for a co-director to help me with the whole production. If you are interested please contact me. I look forward to presenting this on campus. This is a big community fundraiser. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ON MONDAY OCT. 16!!! I'm looking for a few *great* volunteers! I am currently working on Gordon Hintz's campaign. He is running for the 54th State Assembly. You can learn more about Gordon through his website: www.hintzforassembly.com. Also, here's a link to The Northwestern which details some of the issues the candidates discussed in a forum last night (issues related to healthcare): http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061010/OSH0101/610100452/1128/OSHnews. Here's the "volunteer" part.... :) We're doing a LIT DROP on MONDAY NIGHT OCT. 16TH. No knocking on doors, no having to talk to citizens about the issues, just dropping Gordon's lit on porches and moving on. Pretty darn easy, and you're helping to elect a candidate endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of WI. If you're interested in helping, please contact me at erikastueber at hotmail.com or 920-382-2448. Thanks! Erika Stueber Elect Gordon Hintz to the 54th State Assembly! Message-ID: CARE and MenCARE are sponsoring a speaker next week that should be of interest to all of you. Please try to attend and bring your friends! Drunk Sex or Date Rape: Can You Tell the Difference? Brett Sokolow, JD Tuesday, October 17th Reeve Ballroom 8-9:30pm Some students on campuses today engage in a hook-up culture of random sexual encounters with other students, usually fueled by alcohol. But, just because some students are getting drunk and hooking-up doesn't make it right, or legal. When does a hook-up cross the line? Students don't really know, and they've heard confusing messages. This program teaches students about incapacity and blackouts, and dispels common myths about alcohol and sex. Brett Sokolow is a higher education attorney who specializes in sexual misconduct and campus security. He is the President of the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management. Brett is the Editor of the Report on Campus Safety and Student Development, and the author of ten books on campus security, sexual misconduct and campus judicial affairs. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Here are some examples of what other groups are doing: Peace Poems and Quotes, Red cross is educating about community efforts, Arts and Crafts tables where the crafts made will be donated to local nursing homes and hospitals. Anything you would like to do would be wonderful. If you need some ideas of what to do we have some set up as well. Women?s History Month Speaker ~ Discuss last week?s choices and vote! Xina Sy ~ Her honorarium is $3000 plus travel expenses. She offers 3 programs: Soaring in Uncertainty: Moving from Fear to Faith ~ This motivational keynote is inspired by the program of the same name, was created to inspire your audience though times of adversity. She profiles famous women who have overcome the odds in her presentation. Resolutions for a Lifetime: Resolving to Become you Best ~ This program encourages women to break self-defeating behaviors of the past and make positive moves towards a more positive future. Powerful Partnerships and Creative Collaborations: How to Master the Fine Art of Working Together ~ Powerful, passionate methods on how to cultivate lasting, successful and lucrative partnerships in business and personal life. o Robin Garrett ~ What would work best for me would be to arrive on a Wed. evening or late afternoon. Then I could have the later part of the evening and day time on Thursday to talk with women students in small groups, classroom settings, over lunch and so on to get a feel for what your students? thoughts and questions are related to spirituality, religious observance and organized religion. I would then take the afternoon to build into my presentation what ZI learned from talking with your students and do the formal presentation on Thursday evening. You could fly me back on a ?red eye,? or I could stay until Friday morning. I would be flying from Philadelphia airport. Yes, the honorarium of $500 is what I am asking. I know this is, by today?s standards, not a large honorarium. I am in the position of great good fortune that public speaking is not my primary source of income. I also understand what it is to operate with a limited budget. I know how it is in state schools. : ) Dates I could do this would be: ? Fly on Wed. Feb. 28, speak on Thurs. Mar.1 ? or Wed. Mar.7, speak on Thurs. Mar. 8 ? or Wed. Mar.21, speak on Thurs. Mar. 22. ? The 14/15 are not possible. ? The last week would be possible but much harder for me. o Robin Silverman ~ Email from Marianne: Hi Ladies! I just got off the phone with Robin Silverman, one of our candidates for Women's History Month. I love her! She is so confident and really has a lot of good ideas. She'd like to come for a night/day thing too... just like the other Robin. Kind of a "brown bag dinner" she said, listen to the audience too, and then hold a kind of workshop the next day to teach people things. Something about how quantum physicists have found 12 dimensions so if we're only living in 3 were missing the other 9... wow! ha-ha. Intense. So? She'd be flying in from Minneapolis, which is convenient. And for the event thing she charges $3000. She said she would do like 700-900 for just a night speaker thing, but she is so set on wanting to do more, because she says she has so much to offer. And I believe her! ha-ha... so, just wanted to pass on the message. We can talk more on Monday! The Greens are playing the movie Loose Change 2 and have invited 9-11 Conspiracy Professor Kevin Barrett to come speak in Reeve Memorial Union. We will hear a statement from Representative Steve Nass regarding his view on the Barrett issue. And Congressman Mark Green has been invited to speak as well. This event is open to anyone and everyone to show their distaste the for the teachings of Kevin Barret. Most importantly we plan to pay our respects to the victims of that fateful day in September of 2001. We will have a microphone and speakers set up and some signs will be provided. Feel free to bring your own signs as long as they don't have sticks attached to them. Please dress appropriately as we will be outside. As of tonight the forecast for Oshkosh calls for a 30% chance of rain and a low temp of 34 degrees. Even if you can't make it please invite your friends. It takes very little effort to make a difference and I am extremely grateful that you and your organization are willing to take a few minutes to help in the effort to address global poverty. Below I have provided a phone script and a sample letter to use when you call, write, email, or fax Rep. Petri or his foreign policy advisor. When the staffer answers, just say "I'm calling to ask Congressman Petri to cosponsor H.R. 3605, The Global Poverty Act." He or she may ask you for your name or contact information and then will forward your comment to the Foreign Policy Legislative Assistant. Letter, fax, or email: Dear Congressman Petri, I am writing to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 3605, the Global Poverty Act. You have proven to be a leader in Congress, especially when it comes to humanitarian issues. I think that the U.S. needs to be doing more to address global poverty issues and to ensure that the U.N. Is College Life Like in the Movies?: M 10/30 @ 6 in Reeve Theatre ~ A series of movie clips will be shown about college life, including scenes from movies such as "Back to School," "Animal House," "American Pie II," or "Legally Blond." Do these movies influence expectations about what college will be like? What about how students are represented? Women? Fraternities and sororities? What about how professors are represented? A discussion will accompany the clips led by Professors Helen Bannan and Richard Kalinoski, and sorority representative Jenny Schad. Popcorn and cider will be served. A special thank you to the UW Oshkosh Film Society for helping to organize this event. Students are asked to please RSVP at grants at uwosh.edu by Monday, Oct. 23rd. A Forum of Faith Perspectives on the Amendment: M 10/23 @ 7 in Reeve 227C ~ Religious authorities on campus and surrounding campus-related organizations have been contacted and asked to present their perspectives on the proposed amendment. We would like to begin the forum by allowing each representative group to present its concerns about the amendment and how they, as people of faith, are responding. Each group will have approximately 10-15 minutes to present in whatever way they feel necessary / appropriate. Then, we will open the floor up to questions from the audience / participating members to each group in order to clarify and comment on previously stated responses. The goal of this forum is not intended to argue sides but rather inform the audience of the sides and the reasoning behind them. However, critical debate is also expected due to the nature of the topic and the weight that it carries with it both biblically and socially.
