Re: [WSMTE] Student teacher placement question

The UWSP student teacher policy in regard to distance from our campus:  The School of Education has a set radius within which  student teachers are assigned.  I think it’s approximately 60 miles in any direction.  Students who choose to go outside the radius pay a fee ($600-800)  to enable UWSP to pay for supervision by someone other than a regular faculty member.  A retired local music educator has been appointed as adjunct faculty, and she supervises these students.  In the past we found music education faculty from other campuses and paid them to supervise, but this often resulted in difficulties with scheduling, etc.    The students are required to come back to Stevens Point for the student teaching seminar, but this only occurs 3 days each semester.

Subject: Student teacher placement question

Hi Ken-

I have a question for our WSMTE colleagues, and ask if you would be kind enough to forward it through our list serve.

What are the placement policies for your campus in relation to distance? How far (miles or minutes) do you place student teachers from campus? Any extenuating circumstances that come into play?

Many thanks,
Laura
